The Four is described by Orange as ‘the short travel trail bike we’ve all been waiting for’. The legendary Five has been evolving for fifteen years, but a gap for a short travel trail bike as always been wide open. Orange started with a clean slate and designed the Four as an all-new platform from the ground up.
With 120mm travel combined with 27.5” wheels creates the perfect fast and fun all-round trail bike.
As an all-rounder, the Four needed to climb well and Orange had a few tricks up their sleeve to achieve this. They’ve used a short chainstay and a small 44/184mm shock in order to pull the pivot point rearwards to make the swing arm more compact. With the compact swing arm, Orange were able to use their split rear design to save weight and increase stiffness. Boost 148mm rear spacing further aided in creating the compact back end.
The use of a shorter travel fork and less frame stresses means that thinner gauge, lighter tubing can be used. Geometry on the Four is bang up to date with a nice long top tube designed for use with a short stem to keep the handling responsive as it should be. This new model is designed to run per optimally with a 130mm fork, a generous amount of sag is encouraged to achieve a good plush ride.
The Orange Four sits below the bigger hitting trail burners of the Five and Alpine 160, but vastly more capable than the XC lightweights. It’s Orange to the core: simple, reliable and built to perform at the highest level.
